Kendra Sollars: Digital Artist

Plants are more than just inspiration for art, they are art in themselves.

Digital Artist Kendra Sollars strives to showcase the connection that humans have with plants through her work. Her project, Synthesis, is one that explores the growth and change that plants and flowers go through.

“That piece is really about form and shape.”

Her plant journey began with a bare landscape at her Tempe, Arizona home. She did her research on what would grow best in her environment and would be beneficial for wildlife. As the plants grew, so did her appreciation for them.

“I started to get really fascinated with the shapes that the plants create, their movement in the wind, just the patterns that you see in the leaves and flowers…”

It was from this observation that her idea grew for telling a plant’s story through the shapes of her body’s movement in the water.

“In artistic swimming, you’re telling a story with shape and movement.”

Kendra hopes that projects like Synthesis will help people understand the importance and impact that plants have on our lives. She believes in the real human connection with plants and nature.

“I wanted to show…how vital plants are to our existence as humans.”
